Is My Dryer Electric or Gas?

Electric Dryer Outlets

Electric dryers plug into a 3 or 4-prong 240V outlet on the wall in your laundry area. The outlet will look like either of the ones in the picture above. If you see this outlet, you will need an electric dryer. Note that an electric dryer cannot plug into a standard wall outlet.

Gas Dryer Hookup

Gas dryers use a gas line connected to a shut-off valve on the wall in your laundry area. This line is typically made of stainless steel and may have a yellow handle, indicating it is meant for gas supply. If you see this connection, you will likely need a gas dryer.
